In the space of a few years Cilla McQueen has become one of New Zealand's most popular poets. She writes with a freshness and exuberance using strongly evocative imagery and an often innovative language. Her first collection, Homing In, was the joint winner of the 1983 New Zealand Book Award for poetry; it also won the Pen (Jessie Mackay) prize for the best first book of poems. She has read and performed widely in New Zealand and also in Australia, extending her poetry into aspects of visual art, recording, choreography and music. anti gravity is Cilla McQueen's second collection, and includes several examples of her work developed especially for performance.
